ARDE/KUBAHO and the Embassy of Germany in Rwanda have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a new project aimed at harvesting surface runoff rainwater in Ntebe village, Rugalika Sector, Kamonyi District.
The signing ceremony took place at the German Embassy, with Ms. Inga, a representative from the embassy, Mr. Paul Murenzi, ARDE/KUBAHO’s legal representative, and Mr. Augustin Bahati, the Executive Director of ARDE/KUBAHO, all present to mark this significant milestone.
The agreement paves the way for the implementation of a project designed to mitigate hillside erosion and flooding in Ntebe village. The harvested rainwater will be treated and repurposed for household hygiene and sanitation, providing much-needed water security to the community.
Currently, many residents of Ntebe, particularly those living on hilltops, face the challenge of walking long distances downhill to fetch water. However, with this project, water will be made accessible within a 500-meter radius of their homes, greatly reducing the time and effort required to access clean water.
The initiative will directly benefit around 150 families, with water harvested from approximately 50 households. The harvested and treated water will improve both the sanitation standards and the quality of life in the village.
Following the MoU signing, the German Embassy handed over a check to ARDE/KUBAHO’s president to accelerate the project’s rollout. This funding marks the official start of the project, which is expected to have a significant impact on the local community by promoting sustainable water management and reducing the adverse effects of erosion.
This partnership highlights the continued collaboration between Rwanda and Germany in addressing pressing environmental and development challenges.
