Kamonyi, Rwanda – July 21, 2024 – In a significant step toward combating climate change and strengthening food security, the ARDE/KUBAHO team visited Kayumbu in Kamonyi District yesterday to engage with the KOPASONYA cooperative. The meeting, held in preparation for an upcoming project, focused on fostering sustainable land and water management practices to enhance resilience against climate-related challenges.
The project, titled “Enhancing Resilience to Climate Change for Food Security through Sustainable Land and Water Management in Kamonyi District,” is set to be implemented in partnership with the Green Fund Rwanda (FONERWA). During the meeting, the team discussed the cooperative’s readiness to collaborate, ensuring smooth project execution. Key topics included community mobilization, resource allocation, and strategies for long-term environmental and agricultural sustainability.
We had a fruitful discussion with KOPASONYA cooperative members, and we are impressed by their enthusiasm and preparedness,” said JMV Shirubwiko, a representative from ARDE/KUBAHO.
This partnership will play a crucial role in empowering local farmers, improving land productivity, and mitigating the impacts of climate change in Kamonyi.
The initiative aligns with Rwanda’s broader climate action goals, emphasizing community-led solutions for a greener future. With plans now in motion, the project is set to kick off soon, marking another milestone in Rwanda’s journey toward sustainable development.
