In a bid to enhance agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods, ARDE/KUBAHO, in partnership with Medicus Mundi, has successfully distributed a variety of fruit trees to two cooperatives in Kamonyi District. The initiative, which took place on October 21 and 23, 2024, is part of the VITORIA project, “GUHANGA IBISHYA BIRAMBYE,” aimed at promoting sustainable development through innovative practices.
Four different types of fruit trees were distributed, including 200 plum trees, 130 papaya trees, 40 avocado trees, and an impressive 2,000 pineapple plants. These trees, sourced from Dalilah Family Company, a local provider of high-quality seeds, were given to the ABIBUMBYE KAMONYI cooperative and KOABA Karama cooperative.

The crop diversification initiative has several key objectives:
- Boosting Cooperative Production: By introducing fruit trees, cooperatives are expected to increase their yields, contributing to food security and the local economy.
- Alleviating Poverty: The initiative aims to empower cooperative members by giving them resources to enhance their income and improve their economic standing.
- Fighting Malnutrition: The addition of fruit crops will provide nutritious food options, helping combat malnutrition in the community.

“This project not only increases agricultural output but also strengthens the financial resilience of women in rural cooperatives, contributing to improved community welfare,” said one of the project technician , Belyse DUSABIMANA.
