KAMONYI, RWANDA – Today, we successfully concluded a pivotal three-day workshop for the “Umugore n’ibidukikije” project. The event brought together local authorities, technical teams from ARDE/KUBAHO, COFORWA, and UGAMA, and partners from Medicus Mundi to position women at the forefront of environmental conservation and social change. The workshop focused on transforming rural women into “agents of eco-social transformation.” Key highlights included:
Climate Leadership: Strategies for managing sustainable resources, including the planned rehabilitation of 7 water points and 14 rainwater harvesting systems.
Safe Spaces: Training on identifying and preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to ensure cooperatives are safe, inclusive environments for all members.
Advocacy & Governance: A commitment to working closely with the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA) to improve regulation enforcement and protect women’s rights.
The training ended with a unified roadmap and a zero-tolerance commitment to GBV. By strengthening the capacity of local leaders, we are ensuring that the women of Kamonyi are no longer just participants in conservation; they are its primary architects.
