Evaluating WASH Progress and Community Impact in Mugina Sector

MUGINA, Kamonyi District

Representatives from the Rwandese Endogenous Development Association (ARDE/KUBAHO) and German NGO Sign of Hope evaluated community Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure today in Mugina Sector, Kamonyi District.

ARDE/KUBAHO team and Sign of Hope visitor Alma Kleinbauer alongside local authorities, the delegation inspected several critical facilities, including:

•School & Community Water Systems: Operational review of G.S. Kansoro facilities,Handicapped pathway at GS Kansoro,the main pumping station, distribution tanks, and the Nyagisozi water kiosk.

•New Infrastructure: Assessment of a newly built water kiosk and Ecological Sanitation (ECOSAN) latrines designed to improve community health.

•Local Governance: Consultations with Water User Committees (WUCs) to ensure long-term facility management.

The site inspections were followed by a cultural celebration featuring traditional performances by Club Kigorora, along with hygiene-focused songs and poems from local Community Hygiene Clubs.

Local residents and leaders shared testimonies on how the new water points have reduced travel times and improved daily health. The day concluded with speeches from ARDE/KUBAHO and Sign of Hope, both reaffirming their commitment to sustainable WASH development across Kamonyi District.
