ARDE/KUBAHO Showcases Achievements at Karongi District Stakeholders’ Open Day

Karongi District is currently hosting an Open Day for all stakeholders, an event that will run until August 22, 2025. The platform brings together different actors working in the district to present their initiatives and share progress with the community.

As part of its partnership with World Vision through the ISONGA AP Program, ARDE/KUBAHO is taking part in the exhibition by showcasing vegetables including carrots, beans, potatoes, soybeans and sweet potatoes. These are the result of trainings provided to families of children under the project on how to improve household food security through home gardening.

Beyond what is on display at the exhibition, ARDE/KUBAHO is implementing a wide range of activities under the ISONGA Area Program,

Our work is structured around four key programs:

  1. Community Engagement & Sponsorship

  2. Resilience & Livelihoods

  3. Child Protection & Education

  4. Health & WASH

In the area of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, we promote the use of handwashing facilities such as the “kandagirukarabe” to encourage proper hygiene practices and the construction of standard latrines at household level.

The program also supports children’s well being and protection. This includes helping families access healthcare, training parents on children’s rights, and assisting with education and medical expenses, especially for children with disabilities. Families are trained on disability inclusion and supported with small livestock such as pigs, rabbits and chickens to strengthen their livelihoods.

To fight malnutrition, ARDE/KUBAHO conducts nutrition education sessions and provides food support such as beans, dried fish, soy, groundnuts, cooking oil and soap to prevent illnesses among children.

We are further working to strengthen family cohesion. Using the “Celebrating Families” tool, it has supported 150 families across two sectors to address the causes of conflict and restore peace in households. The activity is ongoing in Gitesi, where 16 families are currently being trained.

Through the ISONGA Program with World Vision, ARDE/KUBAHO is empowering families in Karongi with food security, WASH, child protection, nutrition, and stronger livelihoods.

For vulnerable households, ARDE/KUBAHO has assisted families to repair and roof their homes, distributed iron sheets, and helped establish savings groups that also receive Biblical Empowered Worldview training. To date, 88 savings groups have been formed, enabling families to fight poverty, improve livelihoods, access decent shelter and ensure food security. Regular visits are conducted in collaboration with local authorities to monitor progress and identify those most in need.

ARDE/KUBAHO recently helped vulnerable families in Karongi repair and roof their homes by providing iron sheets and guidance, creating safer and stronger living spaces.

Most recently, the organization has started recruiting an additional 500 children into the ISONGA Program, bringing the total number of supported children to 2,540.

The Open Day continues to provide a valuable platform for stakeholders to share experiences, learn from one another and strengthen their collective efforts toward the development of Karongi District.
