Women Cooperatives in Kamonyi District Embrace Organic Farming Practices for Sustainable Agriculture

Kamonyi District – Three women’s cooperatives in Kamonyi, ITUZE Kigese, COEPOKA Kayenzi, and DUHARANIRUBUZIMA Gatwa, are currently undergoing specialized training in organic farming with the aim of promoting sustainable agricultural practices that protect soil health and boost productivity.

The training focuses on holistic agriculture practices that encourage farmers to adopt environmentally friendly and resource efficient methods. Among the techniques being introduced are conservation agriculture through zero tillage, soil mulching, improving water holding capacity, maintaining soil moisture, transforming organic waste into compost, as well as the benefits of intercropping and crop rotation. Participants are also learning the importance of planting in rows with adequate spacing to maximize yields.
